Brother Barry

Today I attended new life united pentocstal church.. A totally different feel, but it was stil church, the pastor still spoke truth, used the same bible and worshiped the same God. And every person on the congregation must have come up and shook my hand, including the head pastor! What an amazing concept: a church body that actually KNEW their congregation! And the main pastor was playing the guitar on stage! in the back, behind the keyboardist, in his suit, and then for up and gave the sermon. that's humility!

The average person that would attend even a new age evangical church today would find the atmosphere uncomfortable due to their carasmatic all open worship. I found If I was able to get rid of these uncomfortable content feelings of controle I could feel the presence just like any other church.
Though the doffrences in the ppl, atmosphere, and the delivery of the sermon is diffrent it is still worship and words from God. When it comes down to it that's just all the diffrence is: delevery. Why does it make a diffrence in how the gospel is delivered? After all the bible is open for intruptation, right?

So what if we get past the words that we don't want to hear, or the actions we don't want to do? Isn't that our flesh getting in the way? Isn't that us looking out for number one? And how we want to feel? Or what we would rather be told?
If you can do that you could actuallly find he presence of God if u actully put yourself aside for just 5 mins. and maybe you'll learn somehing new...or feel the presnce in a diffrent way. after all it's all for him anyway right?
Take yourself out of the equasion, cause it's God you'll answer to in the end, not yourself.

"you're going where?"

Has anyone ever told you that you remind them of someone. A character in a book or in a movie?
Ever thought that we’re living in a story. Ever thought what your role is. We always wonder through life aspiring to be something. Something gets in the way? Is it our lives that get in the way? What stops us from grasping it? Who’s story are we living? Is someone telling us what to do or where to go?

We have… we all love movies and stories. our lives seem to be consumed with movies, TV shows, other peoples’ lives; the challenges they face and the lessons they learn.
Why are we so entranced my others adventures?
We seem to relate to or aspire to be these fictional characters. But what stops us?
When our lives have purpose, only then do we fully embrace life and live it to the fullest.

The characters in these stories are merely people who have goals and are living the story they’ve been placed in. they’re truly unique in every story. Just like each one of us is unique to our own story.

These stories are attractive and they all teach valuable lessons. Given the timeline is a lot shorter than out life span, but it’s all very much the same. We make critical decisions everyday in our lives that seem to hold the weight of the world.
Critical decisions towards what? Every path leads somewhere….right? A sequence of events that leads these characters somewhere…right? But it’s comforting to know that in these stories…we all know that in the end they will be happy and all will be back to normal…
But that just doesn’t happen, they have to suffer and fight first…right?
Isn’t that what makes it all worth while?

Life, as it is a journey. Everyone calls it a path or a road anyway. This seems to be what every character has. Direction, but they know where they’re going. When they know where they’re going. Maybe not how they’re going to get there…but that doesn’t matter…they’ll do whatever it takes.

Decisions may be harder to make, but with a goal in mind…little sacrifices, bumps in the road, scrapes and bruises don’t seem to matter as much. these lessons we learn get us closer to ultimately to our destiny, or our purpose we’re trying to fulfill.

We wonder what’s next, even in our relationships, but that’s just it. But that’s just it…are you waiting for someone else to make the decision for you?
Because if we don’t have a goal…who’s leading us and influencing our decisions….?
Shouldn’t their be some sort of solid ground underneath us? Morals? Guidelines? Truths? What ever we do, or what ever happens we will see the right and wrong in it in the end…
That’s different for us all, but what is true is the same for all of us.

When you look back when you get older are you going to wonder what happened.

Have you ever tried to go somewhere and not know where you were going? Driving and got lost? It’s hard to know at what point you got lost. If you went 400 miles in the wrong direction on the highway, you can’t just get a quick fix to get you back in the right place.
The same is true when you try to turn around after ten years of decisions in your life…no quick fix.

are we really living every day and putting every effort towards that retirement home in Florida??
I’m glad to know that I’m seeking a four-year college education so that I can on day live happily on the beach playing checkers.

I recently saw the movie “UP”
If you haven’t it reflects this perfectly….the old man had a goal in life and was happy in the pursuit of it….
But it never came…life got in the way?
He never felt truly alive until the moment he threw everything out and started a new adventure.
After all he reached his goal….sat in his chair…but then what?

We move to Florida? Live a life of relaxation? But then what?
Grasp the bigger picture and there will be no regret

Is that what we’re really living for? Or is there a bigger story here? Are we fulfilling the role that we’re created to? or told to?

So we can ultimately satisfy ourselves with relaxation in the nice cool air-conditioning.
We all remember those times where we lived on the edge and lived to experience the thrill…

What do we ever learn from being comfortable? In our familiar places we keep all under our control.

So take a look at the big picture. These are simple lessons your parents always told you; to live for your dream,
die doing what you love, because there…only then do we live. When we’re willing to risk it all. Because in the end we lose it all anyway, will you follow your heart?

Children Stories & The Bible

simple childrens stories have nice little morals and meanings and virutes we learn and children.
even the little TV shows on nick jr. or sunday morning cartoons.
how to share
not to hate
to love
friends are valuiable
parents do the best for you
love your enemy
you're always a winner
and so on.

every onece in a while you may hear one of these stories.
one that you havent heard in awhile.
or land on a TV channel with a kid show on it.
maybe your reading it to another kid.
or maybe in a libiary,
or on the internet.
we have all, at one point, run into one of these stories or shows as an adult.
and we couldnt help but notice the moral or lesson it was trying to instll.

because it was meant for kids.
litte kids learning.
growing.
hearing the good, and the right way to be.

Most of us, looking at those stories think, how cute that has a good meaning.
good moral.
sometimes we get caught in that little moment.
like a kid.
thining: hey, that's something everyone should hear and understand, why don't ppl feel that way!?
we see these raw do's and don'ts that we only thought applied to children.

but we fail to realize we still are all children; learning, growing.
these same lessons are taught to us, in adult words, adult implications, and real life stories.
in the Bible.

but wait, on no, those are simple morals and virtues. we know those.
the Bible just pushes it too serious.
we know that stuff. we dont need some book to baby us like we havent heard that stuff before.

those lessons we learned as a kid, still apply.
and when we hear them, it itches at our little child inside.
God wants to show us that we are his very loved children.
no one is too old to learn a virtue.
The Bilble is full of them.

But i'm thinking then. why are so many 'afraid' of the Bible
or hesitent i should say, to read it and hear it?
is it taking those childish stories and making them too serious for you?
they aren't important enough to be put in a grand book.

maybe we are so oblivious to the bigger picture that the Bible has to offer here.
we are dumb sheep
babies, still learning.
soak it up.
don't try to grow up too fast.
you'll just miss out more.
jumping ahead, you miss the most fufilling things.
even if your 50 you are still growing
every time you hear those chld stories through older eyes you get a sense of being a child
growing up again.

Go back and be a kid.
read the bernstein bears
or watch an episode of little bear, or franklin
or barney
or whatever you grew up reading/watching.

The Bible is beautiful.
in that it is simply for us.
to live by
to learn from
an offering.
why pass up the opprounity to be taught the greatest lessons, by the smartest teacher,
and sit in aw
like your 4 again
in a circle, at the libiary for story time.

battle

All i know is you can get lost in seconds
when you get off you keel
you dont think straight. crooked
letting things get into your head
you're torn apart quickly

you dont know where you've traveled to
your mind bends, and sacrifices it's morality for the now.
eliminating that Godly mentality that you hold onto only in your right mind
and satan steps in.

question. question the questions.
can't fix it, fix it on your own.
battle.
God gave you a way out! you didnt take it!

1 Corinthians 10:13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

but that never crossed your mind.
and that's too far gone.
that would be the easy way out right. you're a fighter right
your fighting now. the heat of battle. with who?
a person? your self? evil?

Things happen quickly when temptation hits.
what you may have been taught to do in tempting situtations gets thrown out the door,
you first reaction, your first thought that crosses your mind
isn't usually what you were taught.
it's diffrent when it's right in your face.

why can't we slow down, let our thought's be His thoughts.
if they were, our first thought might be getting out,
or if it was God's way in your head, you wouldn't even give it a thought
for there are greater things you would rather concern your self with.

Colossians 1:10-14 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

There is a right time for everything

Ecclesiastes 3

"There's an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on the earth:

A right time for birth and another for death,
A right time to plant and another to reap,
A right time to kill and another to heal,
A right time to destroy and another to construct,
A right time to cry and another to laugh,
A right time to lament and another to cheer,
A right time to make love and another to abstain,
A right time to embrace and another to part,
A right time to search and another to count your losses,
A right time to hold on and another to let go,
A right time to rip out and another to mend,
A right time to shut up and another to speak up,
A right time to love and another to hate,
A right time to wage war and another to make peace.

But in the end, does it really make a difference what anyone does? I've had a good look at what God has given us to do—busywork, mostly. True, God made everything beautiful in itself and in its time—but he's left us in the dark, so we can never know what God is up to, whether he's coming or going. I've decided that there's nothing better to do than go ahead and have a good time and get the most we can out of life. That's it—eat, drink, and make the most of your job. It's God's gift.

I've also concluded that whatever God does, that's the way it's going to be, always. No addition, no subtraction. God's done it and that's it. That's so we'll quit asking questions and simply worship in holy fear.
Whatever was, is.
Whatever will be, is.
That's how it always is with God."

God has set a right time for everything. Be ready and open to it. you have to give up that controle. let it flow. don't miss out on what God has planned by being selfish. God gives you happiness. dont try to control it yourself.

you can do all things but it is not ok to do all things

distractions

A friend recently brought some friends to first Wednesday at church. a group of them that had not been to a seacoast like service, and certainly not one like first Wednesday.
During commitment time, and other portions during worship, some proceeded and deemed it appropriate to continue to talk, be loud, and, not worship. right in the middle of all that were.
after ignoring the distractions and getting on with her worship and trying to make a quiet but subtle point to her friends being rude and distracting she finally turned to them and said "guys! people are trying to worship!"

even she couldn't worship. and this was the time. distractions.
after i heard this, i couldn't help but think, "isn't this the way we should feel when we walk out of the church doors?"
not a hate for friends or the world.
but why do the very same distractions seem to no longer be so subtle to us when we're not at church, going through the motions of worship?
Shouldn't every step of of everyday have the intention of glorifying God?
but we get used to the distractions, and fail to realize the influence of the world holding back our glorifying steps for the world.

why can't we seem to find that niche. where we are so on fire to glorify God with everything that we do that we are screaming at the rest of the world to: "shut up! i'm trying to live! i'm trying to worship!"

we have come to go along with the set backs and distractions all around us, never noticing until we are, once again, back in church, on our knees wondering how we fell apart.
failing to realize the little things that eat us away, and don't glorify Him.

acknowledge

"The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today... is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is simply what an unbelieving world finds unbelievable.

1 Corinthians 4:5
Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

i'm only taking about proclaimed Christians. we should hold our selves to a higher standard.
we were called to a higher standard
called to serve a bigger cause
to open our eyes to bigger things
to act for a greater purpose than this world!

we sin, and are forgiven, we all slip up. that's a given.
and no, Christians are not the direct cause of atheism.
but we're not exactly arguing our case here, are we.

John 3:19-21
And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”

do not love the darkness!
yes we are not worthy to even go to heaven. but we were
the light exposes and cleans us.

Colossians 1:11-14
We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

we're not exactly using the gifts God gave us to better his kingdom
or the knowledge we seek in that book we haven't read... lately
where's that purpose that we once new when our eyes were opened when we first gave out lives to Christ?

we saw how clear our objectives and purposes were then.
we sill have that power

1 Corinthians 4:10
Our dedication to Christ makes us look like fools, but you claim to be so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are so powerful! You are honored, but we are ridiculed.

Paul is taking of what he as an apostle has to go through to be a prophet.
how every Christian is essentially placed in the perfect place, with the perfect opportunities from God to minister and spread the word of life!

we are giving others plenty of reason to consider their being no God.
we are supposed to remove that from the world.
when we are actually helping it spread.
do not love the darkness that is sin!

argue your cause
your devotion to the name Christ is your power.
if you as a Christian are not serving the kingdom,
you're killing it.

Got a job

Me and my friend Bryan got a job here at the school. we're doing tech stuff kinda like what i did at seacoast, running audio fo small events, and fixing technical and computer problems. it's fun, and i'm getting paid to do it this time so even better! hah

let's hope i can keep all this work balanced and keep my grades up.

i have a speech coming up on what most impresses you about america. and i'm thinking about doing it on something about how people push God out of the government and how so many ppl think God is a concept! that negatively impresses me about america! that everyone accepts that now. what happened to God is there and we dont argue with that, everyone thinks they're so much smarter than everyone that's ever lived and they can just figure it out them selves! thatnk you so much for clearing it up for us because we've been wrong for 2000 years! but thanks that your genious short years you've lived so far, you've got it figured out!

people cant just come in and push this stuff around, it's not right. so in my speech class, to the religon hating guy, i plan on speaking about that. so i'll let you know how that goes

COLLEGE

College, my friends, is diffrent. as of right now, about 3 weks into it, i still havent quite got adjusted. it hasn't set in. The people act just like high schoolers, and dont know what to do with them selves. my roommates are cool we all get along fine.

When we're not in class, good luck trying to find something to do around here, cause there's nothing. to do at all. if you do want to do anything you have to drive to get there. everything is all spread out. But we've been fishing a couple times at my grand fahers place in beaufort witch isnt too bad to take up time.

classes are picking up. and it's becoming very obvious that i'm gonna have to work my butt off if i want to transfer out of here. so we'll see. i'll let the strees roll off.

i'm taking a bible litutature class, withch has been the highlight of my week, cause it's something i actually want to study. and the teacher is cool, she's maried to a pastor of an AME church, and they are crazy so it's cool, ther's only 3 ppl in the class too, witch is nice.

but my speech class teacher is out there. he has some sort of problem with religion, he mock's it alot, but then he'll quote the bible. but then again the devil can quote the bible right? well he rubbs me wrong, and like to call people out on their faith, so it's intresting, i like a challenge though.

screwing up

Screwing up for some reason terribly frowned upon to alot of people. It's happened to everyone, everyone screws up. But it's happened to me and a bunch of other people, where we've screwed up, but quickly find that we've been exiled. alright ok then i can do it on my own, i've got my own faith.

I did my share of putting forth my effort into a friendship or try to get their attention, but out of love. But soon enough 2 years go by, and what are you to them? They dont know, they have another priority now. It's ok i can do it on my own, i've got my own faith.

Well that works for only so long. But who do  you go back to? I've got my God, but never did i have someone that wanted to do that smallgroup and dive into the word with, and just talk about God. For some reason they didnt want that, the would rather have a dance party, or go cuddle with the girlfriend or boyfriend. It really shows where their priorities are.

I was broken hearted when i was so on fire for God, and everyone else was in  their own world, and wanted nothing to do with that. But i reached out to people, but nothing. Maybe i was reaching out to the wrong people, the people i was told that would hold me accountable, didn't care to. Where was their heart? When i was to make a mistake you would assume that i did it out of my evil heart, so you would leave me be. Not knowing that treating a friend like that, with no support is they way they fall away. I've seen so many people fall away, the main reason being because no one cares to invest in them, so they say what do they care. all they want is that support from a friend. John 15:13 says "No greater love a person can so is die for his friends." How come followers of Christ don't live this up. only for them selves, they think, "Oh their of no use to me.....what am I getting out of the relationship?..."

The true friends are the ones that will call you and ask how your doing. They are the ones who may not always be around but they are the ones who care for your heart. If you can think of no one that does that, then maybe you should check your heart, and start reaching out. You make the first step, if you wait for someone else to do it, it'll never happen.

Dating Often Isolates A couple From Other Vital Relationships

While Gareth and Jenny were dating, they didn’t need anyone else. Since it meant spending time with jenny, Gareth had no problem giving up Wednesday night bible study with the guys. Jenny didn’t think twice about how little she talked to her mother and sister now that she was dating Gareth. Nor did she realize that when she talked to them, she always started her sentences with “Gareth this…” and “Gareth said this…” Without intending to, both had foolishly and selfishly cut themselves off form other relationships.
By its very definition, dating is about people focusing on each other. Unfortunately, in most cases the rest of the world fades into the background. If you’ve ever felt like a third wheel hanging out with two friends that are dating each other, you know how true this is.
Granted, of all dating’s problems this is the easiest to fix. Yet Christians still need to take it seriously. Why? First, because when we allow one relationship to crowd out others we lose perspective. In Proverbs 15:22 it says:
“Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisors they succeed.”
if we make our decisions about life based solely on the influence of one relationship, we’ll probably make poor judgments.
Of course we make the same mistake in any number of non-romantic relationships. But we face this problem more often in dating relationships because these relationships involve our heart and emotions. And because dating focuses on the plans of a couple, major issues related to family, marriage, and faith are likely at stake.
And if two people haven’t defined their level of commitment, they’re particularly at risk. You put yourself in a precarious position if you isolate yourself from the people who love and support you because you dive wholeheartedly into a relationship not grounded on commitment, in Passion and Purity, By: Elisabeth Elliot, she states, “Unless a man is prepared to ask a woman to be his wife, what right has he to claim her exclusive attention? Unless she has been asked to marry him, why would a sensible woman promise any other man her exclusive attention?” How many people end dating relationships only to find their ties to other friends severed?
One of the saddest tendencies of dating is to distract young adults for their God given abilities and skills. Instead of equipping themselves with character, education and experience necessary to succeed in life, many allow themselves to be consumed by the present needs that dating emphasizes.
When Gareth and Jenny mutually decided to stop dating, they were surprised to find their other friendships in disrepair. It’s not that their other friends didn’t like them; they hardly knew them anymore. Neither had invested anytime or effort in maintaining these friendships while they concentrated on their dating relationship.

on fire?

Being on fire for God is more than just words, it's a commitment, a statement and a promise. When your so in love with God wouldn't he be the first thing to come up in your conversation? i think so. But being on fire and fufilling that promise, some people don't seem to get. They continue to devote half of their effort twards God, and the rest to their self, or someone else. My interpretation of it is, when living for God, every little bit counts. It's not just one slip up, it's just on smoke, i only one kiss, i didn't read the bible this morning it's okay. It's the little things in life that don't give glory to God that make all the difference and set you back further than you realize. Why isn't God the first thing that comes out of your mouth? Why don't you want to simply read the bible with others and discuss and talk about it? The bible was meant to be read together, not by yourself. You get the most benefit of it when reading it with others, bouncing ideas and interpretation off of each other. In bible times towns would only have one bible, and they did just that, read it together and grew. Is your life consumed with God. Or polLuted with the world. Their i no half way commitiment, it's all or nothing. You're lying to yourself about it any way so do you know where you stand with God?

If you were to tell me you're on fire for God, i'll hold you to it. We all love seeing that in other people, it fuels others, it's contagious. But come on, i couldnt do it on my own. It blew my mind when i finally saw how selfish people could be, weither it's the way you treat your friends or the way you spend your time. you're living for a higher purpose. stop looking at the ground. Grow up, it's bigger than you. The gossip, the dating, the lies, the material stuff you must have. it's all disgusting, to me and i'm sure God. Isnt he the one you should be caring about?

Easter

Easter was today. i got candy. and a risen King!
